Sept 18,2016 Oliveira de Azemeis 20km
This was a pleasant walk today, going through forested areas and enjoying the shade from the trees. However, there were a few ascents and descents, but it was the last ascent that was the most demanding. As we approached the town of Oliveira, we ascended the first level and rested before going on to the next stage, which we thought was the top. But no it was not, and the next level was even longer than expected. Sweat was pouring down my face and my butt-cheeks hurt. Julie of course is super human - no sweat! Eventually entering the town and finding a restaurant where many locals were enjoying Sunday lunch. My God we were worthy of this delicious meal today!
There must have been a big festival the night before. The streets in the town centre were draped in white cloth and empty plastic beer cups were still visible on the ground. At 2pm on Sunday the streets were empty. Everyone must still be sleeping following the all-night party. Lucky we arrived today, otherwise we may not have found a hotel room.
