More hard trekking through rolling hills and little hamlets. Not many coffee stops along the route. At one little town, we stopped at a grocery store for a can of coke and then sat at an outdoor table to rest and enjoy a sandwich we had packed, when all of a sudden a very fat British Bull dog came around and sat beside us just staring with sad-looking brown eyes. He was determined and just kept changing positions between Julie and me, until I finally gave in and gave him some of my sandwich. When leaving we discovered he lives next to the bar, and must come out when someone is seated at those tables. From the size of the dog, he appears to be proficient at begging for food.
The last 2km into Conques was hell - a steep descent along dried out stream, filled with rocks and roots. Julie is scared by this terrain, hence it took us 45 minutes to reach the town. And it is a magical medieval town with the abby and related museums as its major tourist attraction. There are daily bus loads of tourists that come, hence the high prices at hotels and restaurants. Reservations recommended as many trekkers were turned away.
Some of the area is baron. How do people survive?
A Gite owner with a sense of humour. It is a hikers dream to discard their boots.
Beautiful little hamlets along the route.
