Sept 16 Santo Domingo de la Calzada 21km

Another excellent trek, going through vineyards. The temperature was pleasant (17c) and the sun shining. Today I met pilgrims from Japan, Mexico, France and Seattle, and the time passed quickly talking with each person.

There was some sadness. It was obvious the economy in the area is not doing well. In the town prior to Santo Damingo, there were many condos for sale, and new construction halted. In Santo Damingo, many business were shut down. It must be discouraging living in a town loosing jobs regularly.

On the positive side, the hundreds of pilgrims passing or staying in the town are supporting the many hotels, restaurants and super markets. And let's not forget the churches which many pilgrims visit or attend mass.

An interesting sculpture- a water fountain!
