Sept 19 Hontanas 30km

We travelled 10 more km than planned but that was the only accommodations available. Once a room has been confirmed, the length of trek is a lesser concern.

The Camino had us going through the Burgos university area and after 45 minutes we were into the rural region. This was a start of a trek that would take us through an area of rolling hills and fields suited to grown very little, but hay and sunflowers. The rest stops, at cafes, were quite rewarding, especially when temperatures started to climb.

My daily kilometre range is about 20km. In that range I've got lots of energy and can keep up with Julie and pass most other pilgrims, but after that my body begins to protest. Today, after 30km I was .5km behind Julie. Many other pilgrims were commenting to Julie on her speed and endurance.

Many of the towns would not be in existence without the Camino, and Hontanas is one of those towns. There are 4 albergues offering accommodations and all in the town offer a varied food menu. Two of the restaurants cooking paella for a communal dinner. It was a fun afternoon and evening, drinks, food and conversation with other pilgrims.

One major issue staying in this town. The church rings its bells on the hour and half hour. This can be annoying, but somehow I slept through the noise.
