Sept 11 Tuesday, Espalion 26km

The trek today was both long and rocky, going through dried riverbeds. This slows Julie down considerably as she is scared of descents in rough terrain. Other trekkers were so kind and patient when they are unable to pass. There were some surprise/unexpected rest stops to fuel up and a few natural water springs to refill water bottles. I was apprehensive of the last 6 km because of the steep ascents and descents, and I knew there was an alternative route that was flat, following the Lot River. It was the same couple that helped us a few days ago, which appeared and directed us to the easier route.

We arrived into Espalion at about 3pm and followed the river into town. This was an exceptional picturesque walk. It was a hot day (30c) and our first task was to buy the largest and coldest bottle of pop. 1.5 litres almost disappeared within a few minutes.

Today's trek going through pastures over rolling hills.

30c today...thank God for the trees.

Julie's new friend at the rest stop. The cat discovered that Julie did not have food and went to another trekker.

The Lot River

School children and trekkers making their way along the river.

Men playing bocce (french version called Pétanque). Its very interesting where and how its placed. Normally on a rough surface, and the ball is lobbed with a back-spin instead of rolled. Lots of smashing the opponent's balls.

These were the two saviours who helped us find easier trekking routes. They were pulling a cart with their luggage and sleeping bags, and needed to go alternate routes. Hence, they were the go-to couple for advise. Unfortunately they are waving goodbye because they return home today.
