Sept 14, Castro 27km

I have to mention the street escalator again. It was a saviour this morning when leaving Portugalete with heavy backpacks. And another saviour was the lone pastry cafe open to get a caffeine and sugar kick-start. Many other peregrinos doing the same.

I didn't look forward to the day's long trek, but the vistas were spectacular, following the coast and getting views of the beaches from mountain hilltops. It was a sunny day and the sea breezes were refreshing, and the bar/cafes along the route kept us hydrated.

Not sure of the artistic value of this structure!

Mid-september and the beaches are still busy.

Stairway to heavenly views...200 steps.

This guy was cooking his peppers in oil and was explaining the process.

Finally arrived to Castro.

3am, and the party continues outside our room. Not great for us as we have to get up at 6am.
