Sept 2-3 2019 Barcelona

The first day of vacation is always difficult and tiring, especially after 20 hours of travel. I had a good sleep on board the plane, but Julie not so much. The travel from the Barcelona airport to our hotel went smoothly, but when we arrived to the last metro stop, we had to ask directions from three different people to point us in the direction of our hotel. Once checked in we made our way to the city center. Unfortunately things look a lot closer on a map than they really are, and after walking for an hour and half we decided to return to our hotel and get something to eat. We had hoped to buy train tickets to Zaragoza, buy our camino credentials and buy a phone SIM card. Not accomplished today. Hasta maƱana!

There is an Arc De Triump in Spain

On DAY 2 we got up early, knowing we had three specific tasks to accomplish. In the town centre there are many historic monuments to visit, but we could only visit a few. We definitely will need to book three days in Barcelona prior to flying home. It took about four hours to complete our tasks, and in the afternoon we had lunch and enjoyed a siesta. In the evening we went for a walk and we were pleasantly surprised how close our hotel is to the Barcelona beaches. There were many people on the promenade enjoying tapas and drinks at the many bars and restaurants. And we enjoyed watching the many games of beach volleyball being played. The most interesting to watch were the ones played without the use of hands. It was 2 against 2, with a net but played by kicking, heading and use of chest and shoulder. We definitely need to spend more time in this part of Barcelona

Lots of delicious food in the market!
